About Imperfect Tense Pottery & Stephen Tucker
I was stressing, so I began making pottery.
My background is in education and academia. After burning out, I began exploring pottery as part of creating a healthier life. I still love learning and helping people learn, but I now do that in other ways.
Pottery-wise I’m self-taught. I found my voice, then learned that my preferred technique is akin to kurinuki: carving and hollowing a solid lump of clay without using a wheel, slabs, etc. I use food-safe glazes with a “what-if?” approach.
This intensive, intimate attention creates objects imbued with texture and feeling, with process embodied in product. Each piece is unique.
